Future bright for Limerick region

The Limerick region is currently going through a renaissance when it comes to jobs and investment. That was the key message to come out of a meeting between Limerick Chamber and IDA Ireland.

The Chamber recently welcomed Martin Shanahan, CEO of IDA Ireland to Limerick where a private meeting focused on ensuring that Limerick continues to benefit from the regional policy remit of the state agency.

Speaking about the meeting, Limerick Chamber CEO Dr James Ring said: “The Limerick region is going through a renaissance and IDA are key stakeholders in delivering investment and jobs for the Midwest. Limerick Chamber is committed to working alongside the IDA to ensure that as many jobs as possible come to our region, with a special focus on attracting them to the city centre.

“Limerick Chamber is delighted that Mr. Shanahan has visited Limerick again to experience first-hand the collaboration, cooperation and can-do attitude of our business leaders. We look forward to continuing to work with IDA Ireland, and in particular the newly appointed regional manager Niall O’Callaghan, to deliver on mutually beneficial collaborations which will ensure our region competes in a globally competitive market for mobile investment.”

Figures released earlier this year show that IDA Ireland backed companies created 1,344 jobs in Limerick in 2015. The city saw seven investments over the 12-month period, representing a real turning point for Limerick.

On-demand taxi service provider Uber provided arguably the biggest boost in the city centre, announcing 300 new IDA-backed jobs last July, later adding another 100 after company bosses were impressed with what they saw in the city.
